The Madeira embroidery has existed since the beginning of the archipelago's population, but only from the second half of the nineteenth century that this artifact began to be recognized as the island's system of exchanges with the outside merchandise and entered the household economy of many islanders.
The appearance of embroidery houses and the growing interest of foreigners including British, Germans, Americans and Syrians for the embroidered parts led to the passage of the craft process to industrial.
