SYNOPSIS

As it is mentioned in the Author’s note to the English edition of the book:
"The humanized agricultural [Madeiran] landscape is unique in the globe(...). The south and north coasts of Madeira, from seaside to the mountain are different and very rich in agricultural species of tropical, subtropical and temperate climates. In a continent it would take hours to cover hundreds to thousands of kilometres to experience this agricultural biodiversity, yet here [Madeira Islands] you find it all just a few minutes and kilometres away. In a globalized and very standardized world, it is becoming increasingly important to preserve and show cultural differences and because agriculture is culture, it clearly confirms the need to have a unique agricultural identity, which is reflected on the landscape, Madeiran gastronomy and our traditions."
